So Much To Be Thankful For...

A glimpse of 2008:

Emerson had an amazing year of learning, testing her boundaries (all good ways) and making us the proudest parents in the world. She's the most loving and compassionate child. Her most common phrase is "I love everyone". She thought of that on her own and I believe her. She's full of love and really enjoys all life has to offer.

Emerson started school part-time and LOVES it. She impresses her teachers daily and walks around like she owns the place. No surprise there!

Dan found his mother after being separated for 34 years and reunited. A story worthy for TLC or Oprah. He now has a nurturing and loving mother, Ninette, a supportive step father, Jon, and a beautiful little sister, Jackie. We met in October face-to-face in State College, PA (the middle of no where) and didn't want the moment to end. It was emotional and at the same time we all felt so comfortable, as if we have known each other forever.

We found out we were having a second child after a year of trials and tribulations and have had very positive test results - low risk and on track development. We're due the last week of May. Emerson is going to be the best big sister ever.

How could we ever ask for more?!?!

2009 brings new challenges and wonders. We just found out that we're having a baby boy. The name will be a challenge as we have only been able to identify girls names. We would love suggestions!! Emerson is hooked on Jonah - from her biblical book that Donna and Wayland bought her.

For the first time this week I'm excited about a name. The name is based on Mary 'May' Brooks, my dad's godmother who just passed away. After reading her obituary the name Brooks jumped out at me. I thought Brooks Daniel Lane and it sounded right. Some might cringe (my mother) and others have insisted they love it. My dad seemed to like the name and immediately mentioned there was a MVP baseball player from way back named Brooks Robinson (Orioles 3rd baseman), so I guess we can't go wrong. You can never make everyone happy and you just need to make sure that you're not setting your child up for a lifetime of pain and suffering from a bad name.

Dan's sister is coming out on Valentine's Day for her first visit and it will also be her first New England experience. We can't wait to spend time with aunt Jackie! She is bringing a friend and will be working in a couple of day trips to NY and Boston while she's here. We're hoping to have a family get together so that the gang can fall in love with Jackie too!

We're looking forward to Dan's mom and Jon visiting once the baby arrives. She is looking forward to smothering Emerson with love and to meeting her new grandson. It will be great to have the quality time and the ability to catch up on 34 years and more! We're eager to learn about Dan's family history and of course we look forward to the food. His mother is a wonderful cook and we were sold after getting a cooler of lumpia and fried rice at our first visit.

We have so much to look forward to this year. We'll keep you posted as we go.
